Iola is known for its community life and deep traditions. The city is nestled along the Neosho River at the intersection of US Highways 169 and 54. The town’s friendly people, nineteenth century architecture and large shade trees create a quaint and welcoming atmosphere. The town is centered by the “largest courthouse square west of the Mississippi,” where weekly band concerts are held in the summer. Allen County Historical Museum
Photographs and historical clothing and other artifacts explore the history of Allen County, established in 1855 and one of the original Kansas counties. Located on the southwest corner of the Square at 20 S. Washington. Call 620-365-3051 for more information.

Allen County Memorial Wall
The Memorial Wall pays homage to veterans from all wars and branches of the military. Veteran's day is commemorated annually at the site. Located on the south side of the courthouse square along Madison Avenue. Call 620-365-5252 for more information.

Bowlus Fine Arts Center
One of the finest facilities in southeast Kansas, Bowlus Fine Arts Center hosts a variety of musical and theatrical performances from both locally and nationally known performers. Civil War Memorial and Statue
Dedicated in 1909, this rare white-zinc Civil War Statue stands guard over and pays tribute to those that gave their lives during the Civil War. On US 54 on the west edge of town.

Major General Frederick Funston Museum and Boyhood Home
The boyhood home of Major General Funston was built around 1860, and was originally located on a homestead about 5 miles north of Iola. The home has been restored to the Victorian décor of the late nineteenth centry. The museum features artifacts and furniture from the original homestead, as well as items significant to General Funston's military career. Old Jail Museum
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Jail Museum was built in 1869 out of limestone. Prisoners were held in cells on the bottom floor, and the jailer and his family lived on the second floor. Located at 203 N. Jefferson. Call 620-365-3051 for more information.
