Founded in 1872, the city of McPherson was named for General James Birdseye McPherson, a Civil War Union General who was mortally wounded in the Battle of Atlanta in 1864. A life-size bronze likeness of the general resides in Memorial Park. McPherson is a National Main Street Community and has been called one of the most livable small towns in America.
